The Welder II is responsible for the fabrication of aluminum, steel, and stainless steel sub-components which are supplied to the assembly, shipping and distribution departments. The welder works from engineering blueprints, production orders, work instructions and inspection plans and is responsible for first piece and in-process inspection of product that leaves their work station. Individuals in this position must be skilled in both welding as well as other fabrication disciplines, as well as the maintenance of the machines in those disciplines. The welder can be assigned to any work station as required by product demand. Housekeeping, safety, organization and teamwork are essential values within the welding department. Works under immediate supervision.

Performs first piece and intermittent inspections on own parts and inspects and signs off on first piece for other welders
· Proficient in use of plasma cutter and cutting torch
· Performs robot setups and has basic experience in robot programming (point touch-ups, inspecting weld quality and notifying trained programmer, etc)
· Performs setup of punch presses
· Can make horizontal TIG (GTAW) welds on both aluminum and stainless steel
· Proficient in setup and operation of rolling machine, punch presses, and sheet metal shop
· Basic knowledge/exposure to SAP, including signing in and out of work orders
· Welds product using fixtures with minimal supervision
· Can interpret basic elements of a drawing or sketch including welding symbols
· Can identify types of joints and welds
· Can set up and maintain welding machines including changing wire, gas.
· Has authority to stop production when nonconforming parts are detected
· Follows safe manufacturing and material handling practices with adherence to PPE requirements
· Can follow written and verbal details to complete assignments
· Understands and adheres to company 5S standards
· Understands and adheres to employee handbook standards
· Can accurately record labor times and adhere to productivity standards
· Can use a ruler, tape measure, or caliper to perform accurate measurements to part specifications
· Can compute, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions and decimals

· Proficiency in all MIG (GMAW) applications used at Sonny’s
· Basic knowledge robot setups and maintenance and creation of robot programs
· Basic understanding of TIG (GTAW) concepts and skills
· Basic knowledge of robot programming procedures
· Takes full ownership of QC for parts produced
· Performs QC checks on parts produced by others
Experience required. Must be proficient in MIG and TIG (GMAW and GTAW) welding techniques, both practical and theoretical
· Must be able to pass a practical proficiency test
· Minimum of 5 years prior experience or journeyman certification
· High School Diploma/GED required.
