The Sr Industrial QA Automation Engineer reflects the blend of software testing, hardware integration, and industrial control systems expertise. This role involves testing and validating PLC, HMI, and SCADA software and hardware integrations, ensuring robust and reliable automation solutions in industrial environments.
This position will collaborate closely with product, managers, developers, and QA teams to define test requirement, design comprehensive test plans, and isolate complex defects. This role will enhance automation frameworks and drive continuous process improvements.
• Solid understanding of Software QA and Software development processes and methodologies - especially with working in an Agile environment with continuous integration/continuous delivery best practices.
• Isolate, replicate and report defects and verify defect fixes.
• Collaborate with product managers, developers, and other quality assurance engineers to identify test requirements from performance specifications.
• Design and develop test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on system requirements and architecture.
• Validate control system applications against functional and design specifications.
• Perform hardware and software integration testing involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, starters, sensors, and phase monitors.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues using electrical and networking tools.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in performance engineering.
• Document workflow and work procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education and Formal Training:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, (equivalent work experience accepted).
Experience:
• 5-7 years’ QA experience with at least 3 years of industrial automation systems.
• 3+ years’ experience performing SQL queries for reporting, data analysis and database testing using MySQL.
• Experience operating within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience.
• Highly proficient with Blackbox and Whitebox testing.
• Experience working with Jira or other TCMs.
• Experience with Linux and Linux command line.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming practices and Model, View, Controller paradigm.
• Experience with programming and scripting languages and the ability to write/understand code (PHP, Java, JavaScript, Python, Bash, Golang, react).
• Ability to conduct root cause analysis.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, web technologies, APIs, and databases.
• Strong proficiency in CODESYS Structured Text and PLC-based control systems.
• Hands-on experience with HMI development (Vijeo Designer) and SCADA systems (AVEVA preferred).
• Solid understanding of industrial electrical hardware and networking protocols.
• Skilled in using diagnostic tools such as voltmeters and network analyzers.
• Experience with Git-based version control systems and Jira.
• Networking skills (Ethernet, Modbus TCP)
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with Schneider Electric and Wago PLCs.
• Familiarity with Copia Automation and CI/CD practices in industrial environments.
• ISTQB or equivalent certification in software testing.
• Prior Point-of-Sale (POS) experience from a support, QA and/or development side preferred but not required.
