The purpose of the Material Handler role is to be the primary indirect labor within the manufacturing facility, supporting all machining, welding, and assembly functions so that the direct labor in these production departments do not have to stop their value added activities.

Hours: 7:00am – 3:30pm (1st Shift) / 3:30pm – 12:00am (2nd Shift), additional hours as needed.
1. Safety
· Tasks and Activities
o Wears all required PPE as outlined in the Sonny’s PPE Policy
o Maintains safe and organized working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
o Maintains fork-truck maintenance log as outlined per Sonny’s Policy
o Identifies unsafe work behaviors and reports them to the Safety Manager
o Identifies unsafe work conditions and reports them to the Safety Manager
o Attends monthly safety trainings
o Wears uniform as required by policy and displays name badge at all times
2. Quality
· Tasks and Activities
o Verifies received quantity versus packing list, traveler, or production order and signed for delivered material
o Verifies completed quantity versus production order lot size
o Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
o Reports any quality issues or non-conformances to Production Supervisor
3. Production Execution and Support
· Tasks and Activities
o Execution
§ Keep all internal operations supplied with necessary materials and remove completed inventory and place in correct BIN locations.
§ Gathers/picks parts per production order.
§ Empty machine shop chip bins into the sorted material dumpsters.
§ Moves materials from trucks to storage areas, storage areas to work cells, work cells to storage areas in accordance with needs.
§ Identifies all WIP and partial deliveries using properly completed traveler sheets (last two pages of production order packet)
§ Delivers all finished goods to proper bin location with traveler for quantity verification
§ Tags all MTO and custom items with customer name, standard order number, and SAP part number
o Support
§ Notifies Production Supervisor when workload exceeds capacity
§ Provides input to corrective actions and quality alerts in collaboration with the Production Supervisor.
4. Inventory Management
· Tasks and Activities
o Maintenance of area:
§ Identifies bin locations and sizes required for new products
§ Identifies obsolete/unused product and coordinates with Production Supervisor and Plant Manager for disposition
§ Suggests modifications to storage bins and storage strategies/conditions if they are inadequate for current run volumes, and follows up with the Production Supervisor to ensure that modifications are made.
§ Notifies Supervisor or Plant Manager of overstock locations by part number to be entered in SAP.
o For items produced / received
§ Verifies delivered quantity versus production order quantity for items produced or received quantity versus purchase order quantity for items received, prior to stocking in bin location.
§ Puts parts in destination bin location within machine shop or overstock locations or delivers to other departments with completed traveler.
§ Verifies inventory accuracy in SAP when closing confirmations
§ Identifies, validates, and verifies parts shortage notifications from the machine shop, welding, or assembly teams and their own production orders.
§ Identifies potential inventory issues and communicates them to Production Supervisor
5. Equipment Maintenance and Housekeeping
· Tasks and Activities
o Housekeeping
§ Maintains an organized and safe work area
§ Sweeps floor at the end of every shift
§ Empties trash bins into compactor daily
§ Breaks down corrugated boxes and deposits in baler daily or more often as required
§ Mops work area and wipes down equipment as required at the end of each week
o Equipment Maintenance
§ Ensures that all tools are in good working order
§ Communicates non-working tools to Production Supervisor for repair or replacement
6. Continuous Improvement
· Tasks and Activities
o Identifies challenges, inefficiencies, or areas of opportunity and communicates them to the Production Supervisor
o Proposes solutions to address identified challenges, inefficiencies, and areas of opportunity
o Participates and provides feedback and ideas in problem solving meetings as required
o Implements process improvements according to plan developed by the Production Supervisor
o Attends and provides feedback in after-action reviews following the implementation of process improvement projects

Education and Formal Training:
· High School Education or GED required
Experience:
· Entry level through experienced positions available
· Sit-down fork truck proficiency is required
Materials and Equipment Used:
· Tools of the trade:
o Hand tools – hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, nut drivers, hex wrenches, etc.
o Pneumatic tools – impact drivers, ratchets
o Steel banding and associated hand tools
o Must be able to read a Tape Measure
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
· Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
· Must be able to work in non-climate controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air.
· The use of safety PPE equipment to include but is not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted
· Must have the ability to see details at close range
· Regularly required to stand or sit, and move about the facility. Ability to stand for 8+ hours per day.
· Required to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without “giving out” or fatiguing.
· The ability to make coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Will require proper coordination and motor skills to work with power/hand tools as needed.
· Will require heavy work (lifting greater than 30 pounds). Ability to carry 50 lbs. for 100 feet unassisted.
