Overview

The Production Scheduler integrates information from the production plan and current production staffing levels to create a daily schedule by work center and full-time equivalent (FTE) to ensure that all production requirements are executed on time to provide customers what they need when they need it.

 

 

Job Category: Salary Exempt

Department: Plant Management

Reports To: Sr. Manager- Inventory Planning

Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm, additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

1. Safety

· Tasks and Activities

· Wears PPE as outlined in the Sonny’s PPE Policy

· Identifies unsafe work behaviors and reports them to the Safety Manager

· Identifies unsafe work conditions and reports them to the Safety Manager

· Attends monthly safety trainings

· Attends weekly safety huddles or “toolbox talks” prior to shift start every Monday

· Maintains an organized and safe work area

· Keeps all walkways, emergency exits, and panels free from obstruction in accordance with Sonny’s requirements and all local, state, and national safety codes

· Accountability (Output)

· No lost time accidents (Time Span: 1 day)

2. Production Scheduling

· Tasks and Activities

· Creates and maintains a rolling production schedule for each work center in the manufacturing facility.

· Identifies and accounts for setup efficiencies within the production schedule for each work center

· Tracks the progress of parts and jobs through the shop to ensure schedule adherence in the production departments

· Collaborates with production management (supervisors and Plant Manager) to facilitate flexibility in personnel deployment and overtime requirements

· Interacts with Purchasing, Planning, and Production to identify and resolve challenges that impact the production schedule

· Monitors promised and critical dates and adjusts schedule as required

· Identifies capacity constraints, concerns, and potential issues, and communicates to Production and Supply Chain Management

· Reviews performance versus schedule and communicates required routing changes to the Plant Manager

· Accountability (Output)

· The Production Scheduler will maintain an up-to-date schedule that covers all work centers for a specified period. Any capacity concerns as related to the scheduled output versus the system-required output are communicated to Production and Supply Chain Management (Time Span: Up to 2 weeks)

· All routers accurately reflect production processes and actual time requirements (Time Span: Up to 12 months)

3. Material Management

· Tasks and Activities

· Ensures that parts are available for all scheduled work orders

· Validates production dates of materials that are scheduled to be used in subsequent work centers and expedites/reschedules as required

· Coordinates the flow of materials between production departments

· Communicates purchased part shortages to the Supply Chain department for parameter review

· Identifies systemic or frequent shortages of the same part number and communicates them to the Plant Manager for parameter review

· Coordinates flow for materials designated for subcontracting and outbound scheduling with Production Planning and the Subcontracting Coordinator

· Participates in production meetings providing status of production schedule and any changes in production requirements.

· Balances inter-plant replenishment requirements with outgoing customer order requirements to ensure material availability and minimize excess shipping costs

· Accountability (Output)

· All materials are available, in the proper location, for scheduled work orders when they are scheduled to be run (Time Span: Up to 3 weeks)

· All subcontracted items are available for pickup and/or shipped to the appropriate vendor for processing on schedule (Time Span: Up to 3 weeks)

4. Interplant Replenishment

· Tasks and Activities

· Ensures timing of production order completion supports inter-plant warehouse transfers

· Creates schedule to fulfill inventory requirements at all warehouse locations

· Reviews established min/max/SS metrics against realities of demand and replenishments

· Communicates concerns for stocking parameters to the production or supply chain management for manufactured and purchased items, respectively

· Schedules interplant truck load shipments and processes outgoing transactions as required

· Plans periodic (monthly, bi-weekly, or otherwise) consolidated replenishment shipments to remote warehouses

· Identifies parameter changes required to support consolidation of replenishment orders

· Balances LTL and truckload replenishment tactics to minimize excess freight costs

· Accountability (Output)

· 97% fill rate is maintained for all items extended to a customer’s primary warehouse (Time Span: Up to 6 months)

 

5. Product Discontinuation and Change Management

· Tasks and Activities

· Tracks use-up/go-to component changes

· Files ECNs upon scheduling of last production orders using the discontinued components.

· Notifies production and supply chain management of timing of functional design changeover in production

· Communicates timing and nature of component changes to Technical Support, Parts Sales, and Equipment Sales teams

· Updates shop floor paperwork as required upon deployment of change

· Integrates information from breakeven analysis (provided by others) into production schedule and change plan

· Accountability (Output)

· All products are built per the most recent designs or to the design plan as agreed upon in the breakeven analysis (Time Span: Up to 12 months)

 

6. Visual Management

· Tasks and Activities

· Posts current production schedule and past performance to schedule in each work center

· Maintains up-to-date scheduling and performance information in each work center

· Tracks output versus plan by work center and employee

· Execute reporting critical to the ongoing evaluation of production efficiency and performance

· Reviews scheduling details with Plant Manager for ongoing improvements in the scheduling process

· Accountability (Output)

· All work centers throughout the plant have visual management boards associated with them, and the boards are up-to-date on a daily/weekly basis as determined by production management (Time Span: Up to 1 week)

· Monthly and quarterly reviews are scheduled and executed on a regular basis with the Plant Manager. (Time Span: 1-3 months)

 

7. Training and Personal Development

· Tasks and Activities

· Completes annual self-evaluation review on time

· During annual review, clearly articulates goals for upcoming quarter to Production Supervisor

· Attends monthly 1-to-1 meetings with Plant Manager and brings provides on all topics

· Completes goals as agreed upon in monthly meetings and annual reviews within goal time period

· Takes initiative and ownership of professional development, in line with goals set during review and monthly 1-to-1 meetings

· Supports teammates in their development – provides training and mentoring in work centers to team members and new hires

· Trains other assemblers in work areas

· Attends internal training seminars as agreed upon and scheduled in collaboration with Plant Manager

· Accountability (Output)

· Prepares updates on all projects in advance of monthly 1-to-1 meetings with Plant Manager (Time Span: 1 month)

· Meets all deadlines related to monthly 1-to-1 meetings with Plant Manager (Time Span: 1 month)

· Maintains a personal development plan including aspirational goals and concrete ideas of trainings, seminars, or internal experiences that will be pertinent to desired development (Time Span: Up to 1 year)

 

8. Culture

Qualifications

Education and Formal Training:

· High School Education required

· Associate Degree or higher preferred

 

Experience:

· Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required

· ERP software experience required (SAP preferred)

· Data analysis experience required

· Analytical proficiency in Microsoft Excel required

· 2+ years of experience in production planning / scheduling preferred

· Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and LEAN preferred.

· APICS certification a plus

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

· Working conditions are normal for a mixed office/manufacturing work environment.

· Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed that of the outside air.

· The use of safety PPE equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, steel-toe shoes, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted

· Regularly required to move about the facility. Ability to stand for 8+ hours per day.
