Overview

The Assembly Lead is assigned tasks by the Production Supervisor. It is the Assembler’s Lead responsibility to complete all production orders and related tasks on time, in full, and to specification in order to ensure that all customers’ orders can be filled on schedule. Supervises and coordinates employees who work on parts in the Assembly Cells. Acts as intermediary between the supervisor and the assembly cells. Prepares work schedules, assigns work and oversees the work product. Ensures conformance to established procedures and product quality levels. This position is considered a working lead, presence on the floor is required. The Assembly Lead is responsible for the efficient operation of his/her Assembly Cells. The Lead needs to balance employee skill levels with all production requirements. The Assembly Lead must ensure that production, within the cells, matches all customer requirements. Scheduling and on-time completion of all work performed within the cell is the responsibility of the Lead.

Responsibilities

Develop and communicate a timely production schedule, working with the Assembly Supervisor to determine resource and labor allocation. Ensure that all work requirements are appropriately staffed for completion according to the master production schedule. Schedules must be developed that allow assembly workers time to build and test, when required, assemblies to meet internal and external customer requirements.

· Manage work orders within assigned work centers by performing the following tasks:

o Releasing and closing work orders

o Analyzing actual vs. router labor times and requesting changes via ECR process

o Performing outgoing quality audits

o Process improvements and special projects in assigned work centers, as needed

· Evaluate and disposition RMAs that are delivered to the work centers to which the Lead is assigned.

· Train and cross-train personnel to provide all personnel with the skills needed to perform their jobs. The Assembly Lead will be responsible for training all Sonny’s Assembly employees to be proficient in his/her assigned work centers. Cross training will help the manager to develop communication and interpersonal skills to aid in further development.

· Cross train in all assembly work centers after completing all training of employees in the Lead’s assigned work centers. The Lead will be expected to be an expert in all cells as defined by the Assembly Cross Training Matrix. This cross training of the lead will allow for further development and potentially expanded areas of responsibility based on performance in his/her assigned work center and effective development of other employees. While cross training, the Lead will be responsible for validating BOMs used in those work centers and submitting ECRs to Engineering.

· Assume Responsibility for on-time completion of all work in assigned work centers contributing to the building, testing, or QC’ing of products as required to meet the on-time completion metric.

· Report any urgent needs or expedite requests to the Assembly Manager.

· Provide input for employee reviews as required by the Assembly Manager, Assembly Director, or other individual performing reviews. The input provided will reflect the employee’s actual performance in the work centers overseen by the Assembly Lead.

· Ensure usage of current and accurate Work Instructions through the use of Document Revision Control. The Assembly Lead will work with Engineering and the Process Documentation Specialist to create and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all products. This includes Work Instructions, Bill of Materials, and Drawings. It will be the Lead’s responsibility to provide feedback to Engineering or the Process Documentation Specialist for any required changes to the documentation. Leads will be responsible to ensure that all Assembly Cell personnel have the latest documentation within their cells.

· Recommend and maintain optimal levels of materials inventory for each work center to maintain continuous production. It will be the Lead’s responsibility to work with the work center operators to establish maximums and minimums for all materials within the work center.

· Oversee Quality of Production within all Cells ensuring that the customer receives the product they ordered, meeting our Quality Standards. Work with Engineering, the Assembly Manager, and the Director of Assembly and Manufacturing to define and document all quality standards, and train Cell Operators to these standards.

· Reinforce Sonny’s safety requirements to prevent/eliminate safety related injuries on the job. Work with the Director of Assembly and Manufacturing along with Human Resources to define and document all safety requirements as they apply to the Assembly Cells. Train all Cell Operators as to the nature of job related accidents, and how they can be eliminated. If an injury should occur, it is the Lead’s responsibility to obtain assistance for the employee, and then document and process as required.

· Perform Safety Meeting Presentations on a Monthly Basis.

· Manage maintenance requests through the SharePoint maintenance request system. Ensure all needs are met in the required time frame.

· Studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists; gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.

· Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

· Positions parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements. Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs).

· Assembles components by examining connections for correct fit; fastening parts and subassemblies.

· Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.

· Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete.

· Resolves assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources.

· Identifies units that fail tests or tolerance levels and repairs as necessary according to process.

· Keeps equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

· Maintains safe and well-organized working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

· Wash work areas, machines, equipment, vehicles, and products.

· Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.

· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience & Education:

· 5+ years Assembly Experience at Sonny’s

· High School Diploma/GED required.


Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

· Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.

· Must be able to work in non-climate controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature.

· Will require heavy work (lifting greater than 30 pounds). Ability to carry 50 lbs. for 100 feet unassisted.

· Machinery operation requires the use of safety PPE equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, steel-toe shoes, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted

· Regularly required to stand or sit, and move about the facility. Ability to stand for 8 hours per day.


Materials and Equipment Used: Will require proper coordination, and motor skills to work with power/hand tools as needed.


Tools: Impact Driver, Air Ratchet, Socket set, Box End, Allen, Torx Wrenches, Screwdrivers, Nut Divers, Pneumatic riveters, Drills (cordless, electric) and drill bits, Vices, Taps, Cutting Tools, Hammers, Other machinery (swage crimpers, cloth cutters, impeller balancing, MIG).


Candidates will be required to complete a background check and drug screen before beginning work.
