Overview

The research and development Chemist will be responsible for creating new products and technologies by utilizing chemicals, chemical compounds and chemical processes. The R & D Chemist will also create, improve processes and test the quality of manufactured goods by examining chemical compounds and determining how they interact with other chemicals. This job requires a strong hands-on background in a wide variety of chemical processes and the ability to work independently with little supervision.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from concept shaping to commercial launch of cutting edge field applied solutions.
• Coordinate product design for compliance with engineering principles, customer requirements and related specifications.
• Supports the development of business requirements for new products and enhancements to existing products.
• Test and estimate compatibility of composites and resins with respect to a variety of chemicals and environmental conditions.
• Exploration of new chemistries for field applied composites
• Project management and ability to work in a team environment.
• Documenting the research and development work.
• Knowledge and experience of laboratory safety protocols.
• The ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced environment to customer and company needs is desired.
• Responsible for method development/validation experiment/reports, performing laboratory research and development under minimal guidance.
• Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: Generate protocols, data and reports for the preparation of method development, validation and transfer reports.
• Performs troubleshooting within method guidance.
• Experience in late-stage analytical development. Experience in generating method development/validation report, stability data report for inclusion in regulatory filings
• Extensive laboratory experience with and an in-depth knowledge of conventional laboratory characterization techniques
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong capabilities in experimental design and execution.
• Investigates product development factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-defining recommendations, and change proposals.
• Completes defined technical tasks (e.g., modifying product functional specifications; defining data elements and structure; analyzing and interpreting test reports).
• Conducts routine analyses and/or tests to evaluate product designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required technical documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards, and generating reports, procedures, or change proposals as required.
• Provides technical information for review with product engineering and design review teams.
• Adopts lean product development as well as standard engineering development and techniques.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and/or participating in professional associations.
• Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities. Contributes and supports other teams as required.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree/Bachelor Degree/PHD from an accredited university in Chemistry (Polymer chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry)/Chemical Engineering
• 3 - 5 years’ experience as a Chemist

• The candidate must be fluent in English, have good writing skills, and be able to communicate clearly. The candidate must be able to use MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook). Industry related experience is a plus
• Have excellent hands-on laboratory skills, detailed oriented and excellent organizational skills.
• Must have a strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to guide, direct and provide technical expertise on products (or services) to colleagues, distributors, and customers.
• Proven track record of consistently exceeding and/or achieving goals
• History of working in a field that required autonomy and self-motivation
• Prior experience that required excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to communicate internally with various departments and externally with customers and distributors.
• Ability to use strong judgement with knowledge of company policies and procedures to resolve non-standard problems.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills
• Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task
