A Welder I is responsible for the fabrication of aluminum, steel, and stainless-steel weldments and assemblies which are supplied to the assembly, shipping, and distribution departments. The welder works from engineering blueprints, production orders, work instructions, and inspection plans and is responsible for first piece and in-process inspection of product that leaves their workstation. The welder can be assigned to any workstation/area as required by product demand. Housekeeping, safety, organization, and teamwork are essential values within the welding department.
· Proficiency in horizontal fillet, butt, and circular welds
· Proficiency in vertical fillet and butt welds
· Runs parts on robotic welders using fixtures
· Welds product using fixtures with minimal supervision
· Can interpret basic elements of a drawing or sketch including welding symbols
· Grinds/finishes parts per blueprints and specifications
· Can identify types of joints and welds
· Set up and maintain welding machines including changing wire, gas.
· Uses a ruler, tape measure, or caliper to perform accurate measurements to part specifications
· Perform first piece inspections and intermittent inspections of parts with validation by another welder
· Computation skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions and decimals
· Will be required to purchase basic tools of trade (square, shield)
· Has authority to stop production when nonconforming parts are detected
· Follows safe manufacturing and material handling practices with adherence to PPE requirements
· Can follow written and verbal details to complete assignments
· Understands and adheres to company 5S standards
· Understands and adheres to employee handbook standards
· Can accurately record labor times and adhere to productivity standards
· Understands and demonstrates the 5 core behavioral expectations: Communicative, Motivated, Responsible, dependable, Inquisitive.
· Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment, including TPM of Welding Machinery
· Work with management team to communicate all problems or ideas for improvement
· Support continuous improvement programs
· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
· Other duties as assigned
· Entry Level – Must have exposure to metal fabrication concepts and processes
· Must be able to pass a practical proficiency test at time of interview
· Minimum of 1 year prior welding experience or vocational degree
· High School Diploma/GED required.
