Overview

Works in our Hydra-Flex location, based in Minnesota to support on-site Manufacturing & Design Engineering. The Quality Manager provides leadership and guidance for the department, works to improve core processes and has strong project management abilities. This position is responsible to work cross functionally in order to manage the daily Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities within the entire site. The primary focus of this role is to ensure that our business processes, product quality and site documentation are maintained, accurate and meet ISO9001 standards. As a Quality Manager this person is responsible for the management of two Quality Engineers (QE), a Metrologist and a Receiving Inspection/RMA coordinator & this position reports into the Director of Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Facilities and Coordinator

· Exhibit effective communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills while leading the Quality department toward company goals and objectives.

· Gather, analyze and report weekly & monthly metric data. Evaluate current data and trends to suggest and implement improvement ideas or corrective action activities.

· Identifies and implements training and development of direct reports

· Motivates and coaches team via clear communication and timely measurement of goals to provide frequent performance feedback

· Identify areas of continuous improvement for the facility and in the Quality Management System & subsequently create plan and work with cross-functional teams to implement improvements.

· Provide development and training of the Quality team as well as other departments in all areas of Quality

· Responsible for the Quality Management System and act as the Management Representative for compliance with customer, ISO 9001, ETL/UL, local, state, and federal requirements

· Manage the internal audit system and assure timely completion of audits. Submit findings and corrective action requests to management.

· Manage Customer Return (RMA) process and provide guidance to Receiving Inspector/RMA coordinator to help resolve complex cases which require in-depth root cause investigation/analysis.

· Oversee supplier audits, and partner with Purchasing team to oversee Supplier Scorecard program, Supplier Quarterly Business Reviews and assist QE’s in resolving supplier non-conformances

· Assists QE’s in completing root cause analysis, trains others on basic problem-solving skills (5-whys, fishbone diagrams, is-is not analysis, etc.) and drives the team to implement corrective actions in a timely and thorough manner

· Champion scrap reduction efforts as a collaborative effort with other departments.

· Support Quality Director in strategic planning for the quality department and provide input to annual budget planning process

· Use continuous improvement methods such as Lean and Six-Sigma to develop best practices for the facility

· Serve as the “voice of Quality” in new product gate reviews and assist QEs, Manufacturing Engineers, and Design Engineers in creating/revising proper documentation (FMEA’s, Control Plans, Inspection Records, etc.) for new and/or revised products.

· Work with customers, suppliers and/or Sales teams on deviation approvals for part substitution, dimensional and cosmetic issues, discuss engineering changes to improve part manufacturability, and address any concerns on shipping preservation issues or part quality.

· Improve the Statistical Process Control activities and ensure that data analysis is completed to identify process improvements.

Job Specifications

· Demonstrated progressive direct and/or cross functional leadership experience is highly preferred.

· Must have strong knowledge and proven working experience with quality core tools (PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA)

· Knowledge and proven experience in utilizing Lean and/or Six-Sigma is preferred

· Knowledge of CMM or Vision System programming, use and supporting software preferred

· Knowledge of gauging methodology and metrology preferred

· Knowledge and experience with ISO 9001 preferred

· Ability to work closely with all business processes and functions

· Specific knowledge and ability to lead the development of quality processes to address current constraints and future growth

· Strong independent thinking, organizational and planning abilities, excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills

· Ability to train, teach and mentor subordinates to develop a dedicated team

· Ability to define, drive and implement change

· Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and occasional travel as needed to support the business

· Must be take initiative, be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly analytical

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management or related field with 5-7 years of experience preferred

· Minimum of three years in a leadership role required

· Basic level proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

 

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

· Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.

· Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air.

· The use of safety PPE equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted
